Following an intensive summer in which Anja Mittermüller made her debut at the Salzburg Festival as a participant in the Young Singers Project, performing the role of the Dryad in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, the young mezzo-soprano is embarking on a new chapter this September as a new member of the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons.
Created in the 2020/21 season, the Opera Studio is dedicated to providing outstanding young vocal talent with targeted, practical training and development over a period of two years. In addition to musical performances in concerts, the singers have the opportunity to take part in regular productions as well as performances for children and young people at NEST, the New State Opera, gaining valuable stage experience along the way.
Starting in November, Anja Mittermüller will once again be seen as the Dryad in a new production of Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos – this time in a production directed by Barrie Kosky and conducted by Franz Welser-Möst. Following her Salzburg Festival debut, she now has the opportunity to further her artistic development directly on one of the world’s leading international opera stages, while expanding her repertoire.
We wish her many wonderful and formative experiences in rehearsals and on stage in this pivotal moment - TOI, TOI, TOI!
